I would encourage you to give some thought to that. Shootist, the one observation I make is the number of editing applications that you have. Thanks for taking the time to share this with me.I have been mulling over doing what you suggest fo. I need to download the trial and take them for a spin if for no other reason than you may be right in your assessment that I am missing out on taking my photos to a new level. I am speaking without having tried Lightroom or Photoshop so I hesitate to make a judgement on your comment. GIMP along with PhotoNinja and Fusion allows me to get what I consider good results. As to GIMP, I find it to be a very capable program with a bit of a learning curve. I have been mulling over doing what you suggest for some time because of how it handles files. Buying nice cameras and lenses and not getting reasonable software to process your images is a bit like getting a brand new Lexus and going to the used tire store to get a set of tires for it. I suggest you abandon ViewNX2 and Gimp and get Photoshop and Lightroom CC. I convert TIFF to JPEG with Photoshop for email, then delete them. This may be of no help, but I convert NEF files to 16-bit TIFF with ViewNX2, never a problem with any software so far. Anyone else have this problem and did you find a workaround?Recently purchased a Nikon D750 to complement my D. I can open the file in GIMP or other photo editing programs so the info is there, it just isn't recognized by ViewNX2. If I click on the file name in ViewNX2 the file will open as "Unsupported file type". jpg files with GIMP and overwrite the original or export as another file name the name will appear in ViewNX2 with a "jpeg" logo but the thumbnail will most often not appear. All seems to work well except that if I do any adjustment to. NEF files from the D750 so I up graded to ViewNX2.10.3. The earlier version of ViewNX2 would not process the. I downloaded an earlier version of ViewNX2 with my D7100, not for any image manipulation, only as a means to review and generally move files around. Your dillema will help others and I doubt you'll make that mistake again.Recently purchased a Nikon D750 to complement my D7100. There are many little quirks like that with applications and they are not always obvious. You may have saved other folks lots of time. Thanks for taking the time to post the solution. Glad they found out what it was and were able to guide you through. Sounds like the preferences file was intact. Sorry you went through the uninstall, reinstall. The strange thing is that even after a complete uninstall and reinstall that option was maintained.Īlso can only say how great Nikon support were - refreshing to have free 24hr support (rather than having to get up early to avoid the queues and in order to speak with someone on East Coast!) I'll be calling this evening and will let you know the outcome.Īfter a couple of calls to Nikon help, tech support came up with the solution to uncheck "show lost shadows" within the image menu. Neither refreshing nor reinstalling worked and as an added bonus it now occasionally says unsupported file type (for both NEF and JPG). Otherwise my next idea is to uninstall and reinstall. Jolly division beside clearing the cache, please select to refresh from the menu. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall ViewNX. The program cache won't clear if there is any power to the system. It's really a memory leak problem with the application, not the system. Sometimes the system doesn't seem to recognize that the has ended. Has anyone experienced this before or have any idea how to fix it? I've cleared the cache and it made no difference.įirst, turn the computer off and unplug it for a few seconds (honest). In a few pictures with bright yellow colors, just the yellow shows in the white photos. If you open the picture in CNX2 it displays correctly.Ĥ. It happens with jpegs and raw files equally.ģ. The picture is replaced by the white screen once it finishes loading.Ģ. It displays the thumbnails correctly and, when a photo is selected for the first time, it displays the low-res version that is normally then replaced by the high-res version. There are a few strange things about this.ġ. Then without changing anything (that I'm aware of) View NX has lost the ability to display any of my pictures, instead displaying a blank white canvas. Both worked fine for about a month or so. I've been using both Capture NX and View NX for about 6 months and upgraded to CNX2 and View NX v1.1.0, both on a mac (with Leopard).
